If I was a Kite

Music: Pale Blue Moon by Liad Abraham

If I was a kite

I would pray that

God holds my string

So that I’m not lost

To the changes and chances

Of a tempestuous wind

If I was a kite

Every day I’d aim to pray

That God holds firm onto my string

For with his love and protection

I could never be helpless

For a kite without a string

Is lost to the current of the world

Ripped and tattered

Dampened and smudged

With soot and muck

But, If I ever did drift

Unleashed unto the worldly wind

O’er fields of tulips and poppies

Beautiful yet fleeting

I must not be tricked

For seasons change

And a kite does not fare well

in bitter winter weather

Like how a calm sea turns into a tsunami

So does the world have its surprises

Oh God, if I, a kite, were e’er lost

I’d pray to glide steadfastly

On a gentle breeze

To return to your unyielding grasp

I’d say,

‘forgive my wondering from Your sight

And please mend my spars with Your light’

For this, I must pray everyday

For I never know what the day will behold

And I cannot afford to drift

Unto the mercy of the world

Oh God, only on you do I rely

to uplift me unto tranquil sky

And discern where I must go

To truly, faithfully soar
